House
Summary:
- A lesser Cairhienin house sworn in vassalage to House
Cordaevell, House Roseillin was joined to its liege-house through
centuries old oaths, with frequent intermarriage between the two
families. The most recent marriage being the ill-fated match
between Lord Dobraine Jofrein and Lady Alevaere of Cordaevell, the
current queen's late parents. House Roseillin was a stalwart
supporter of the Lords of Cordaevell, even in contravention of
orders from the Sun Palais. The house is alternately regarded
through Cairhien as an elegant bastion of the arts or as a
collection of simpering over-dandified nobles. Renowned for the
bounty of their gardens, they are wealthy enough to raise several
hundred armsmen from their estates, as well as to finance their
residences, one in the ancestral holding of Ellisandan in the
fields in the midst of Cairhien, the other a respectable maison in
Cairhien, they do not rank among the upper tier of Great Lords
such as Vanderode, Ildevywn or Rhiaghan.
The first of the house was Bernaed ei Roseillin, the
bastard-born son of one of Artur Hawkwing's governors, who
bestowed the ranks and dignities of a lord upon him in exchange
for service to the first kings of Cairhien in securing their
newfound throne. Early in the first century of the New Era, the
Roseillins became fixed in allegiance to House Cordaevell, and
they have remained fixed thusly for several centuries.
Current Status:
- The current High Seat of Roseillin is Queen Healle Marielle,
Queen of Cairhien, who has essentially assumed the title and
incomes by force of will, buttressed by her regal status,
supplanting her cousin, Bervaenes, father of three. His uncle,
Dobraine, is the father of Queen Healle; Dobraine's uncle
Marendrid was Bervaenes' father. Lord Bervaenes' elder daughter
and heir, Berilille, is the mother of two sons, Rendraic and
Vaien.
The Roseillins have profited from ascension of House
Cordaevell, however, with many members of the family given places
of honor at court. Lord Bervaenes' umbrage at being supplanted by
the Queen seems to have been balmed by his appointment as Crown
Governor of the wealthy town of Tremonsien, and his younger
children have been taken into personal service by Her
Majesty.
